Enormous demands are being placed on water supply and wastewater disposal facilities today as eastern North Carolina continues to prosper. This has necessitated the development and implementation of new concepts in environmental engineering. Hendrix-Barnhill Co., Inc. is at the forefront of this field in eastern North Carolina and we are committed to helping our community grow responsibly.
Our work with water supply transportation and distribution involves the construction of pump stations, water main lines, fire hydrants, meters and house service lines. Transportation systems address the controlled movement of bulk quantities of water for relatively long distances. Distribution systems address the delivery of water through pipe networks that serve urban communities.
Water distribution systems are generally designed to adequately satisfy the water requirements for a combination of domestic, commercial, industrial, and fire-fighting purposes. The system should be capable of meeting the demands placed on it at all times and at satisfactory pressures.
Wastewater systems are usually designed as open channels except where lift stations are required to overcome topographic barriers. The driving force for open-channel flow is gravity. Our work with sewer systems involves the installation of gravity sewer lines, force mains, lift stations, manholes, storm water drainage systems, and collection and pumping systems.
The collection and movement of surface drainage and waste flows from residential, commercial, and industrial areas pose problems of a different nature from those for water supply. Waste must be transported from the point of collection to the treatment or disposal area as quickly as possible to prevent the development of septic conditions.
